MOTHER HOUSE SENIOR CITIZENS HOME FOR 50 ELDERLY WOMEN AT VILLUPURAM DISTRICT

Karunalaya has been also been running a Senior Citizens Home at Kandhamanadi of Villupuram Taluk & District serving 43 elderly women at present. They are offered all the basic essentials in life – like a safe and secure shelter, good food, clean clothing's, etc. Besides, for their pastime, some facilities for recreation – like a common TV, newspapers, indoor games like carom and chess are also provided. There is a small open area with some greeneries outside, where the elders can take their morning and evening walks. Those interested can help in watering and maintaining the garden. The more active women give a helping hand in the kitchen. Thus, living becomes a joy, and not a burden, for these seniors, who also get periodical medical check-up by a qualified doctor.

Free medicines are provided for common age-related problems like high BP, diabetes, etc. In case of major sickness, the elders are referred to the nearby Govt. hospital. Besides the routine life as mentioned above, the elders are also taken out on two or three occasions: sometimes to temples, or picnic spots, or other places of tourist attraction. The local contribution raised towards running of the senior citizens home is not sufficient enough to meet out the expenses of taking care of 50 elders. We look forward to the kind support of Government of India for our uninterrupted services for the neglected elders sheltering under our care.
